The foundation of any reliable server is its operating system, and for my setup, the latest release of Ubuntu Server has proven to be an absolutely perfect choice. Paired with the ACEMAGIC Vista Mini V1, it creates a powerful and remarkably efficient combination. Opting for a minimal installation was key; it provides a clean, bloat-free environment that allocates system resources precisely where they are needed. This lean approach allows the hardware to truly shine. The operating system is incredibly responsive, with boot times and command execution feeling instantaneous, a testament to the synergy between Ubuntu’s streamlined code and the mini PC’s fast NVMe SSD.

With 16GB of RAM at its disposal, the system has more than enough headroom to handle multiple services and applications simultaneously without breaking a sweat. I’ve thrown a variety of tasks at it, from running automation platforms like n8n to managing secure connections with Tailscale, and it has handled everything flawlessly. There have been no crashes, no hangs, and no unexpected issues—just the rock-solid stability that Ubuntu Server is renowned for. It’s a set-it-and-forget-it solution that provides peace of mind, allowing me to focus on building and creating rather than troubleshooting my server. It’s the ideal OS for a modern home lab.
