It started off rough for me on this one. It was a 22 hour book to listen to, which is basically 2 work days for me (11 hrs work, 2 hrs total commute to work and home) and the beginning just seemed to be more of a romance novel, not my cup of tea. But somehow, the writing style, the time period, the character development, it drew me in, and I got intrigued. Around the middle, it grabbed me completely, and I found myself enjoying the book more and more. I’m not sure if it was my audio book version, but there were a few points where it had some language “things” going on that I didn’t enjoy. In a few chapters, she is conversing with the little girl in French, and while Janes words are spoken in English, the girls are in French, and not translated. I can understand a little French, but not enough unfortunately. It is not trivial, so it was not a big deal, but it was a bit of a nuisance. Overall, it is absolutely worth biting through the beginning bit.
